Staff Accountant

Northstar Accounting Partners is hiring a Staff Accountant in Chicago, IL. We are a 25-person firm that handles bookkeeping, monthly close and tax for around 120 small businesses and families: restaurants, medical practices, contractors and creative studios. You will look after your own group of client accounts with support from a senior accountant. What you will do: - Run month-end close for a set of 15 to 20 clients: reconciliations, accruals and journal entries - Prepare monthly financial statements and explain the results to clients in plain English - Prepare sales tax filings, 1099s and payroll tax reconciliations - Prepare business tax workpapers and help the tax team during busy season - Tidy up messy books for new clients and set up their accounting systems - Answer client questions by email and on calls About you: - A bachelor's degree in accounting, or in finance with accounting coursework - Two or more years in public accounting or as a staff accountant - Confident with QuickBooks Online (Xero is a plus) and strong in Excel - Organized, accurate and comfortable handling several clients at once - CPA licensed or working toward it.
